✉️ Two Events, Eight Days, and a Creative Restart
The past few weeks have felt like a mix of rest and renewal.
My family visited for two weeks, and while it was officially a holiday, I somehow ended up walking 188 km in that time.
It was wonderful to have them here, but it also meant putting a full stop on all creative projects for a while. The pause was good. It gave me a little distance to look back at how things have been going this year, and to think about what’s next.
But that reflection will have to wait because this week and next are already full of new things happening.

The third Algorithm Free event kicks off tomorrow afternoon.
With each edition, I’ve been learning a little more about how these gatherings should flow, and I’m curious to see how this one will turn out.
This time, I’m joined by guest speaker Paul Fortunato, who’s traveling down from Daejeon. Paul spent 23 years teaching at the School of Visual Arts in New York before taking a position at Hanbat National University in 2015. He was also a MacDowell resident in 1993, and just wrapped up a major solo exhibition at Daejeon Gallery.
If you can’t make it in person, you can still get to know Paul through this short interview we filmed last year:

🐅 Next Week: In the Footsteps of the Tiger
📅 October 25th, 1–3PM
📍 Cafe Han Dee, 부산 부산진구 전포대로132번길 11

This exhibition shares the results of a film photo walk I organized in Busan last month.
Eight photographers joined — though one suffered a technical malfunction that wiped a full roll of film (RIP). The best shots from each surviving roll of Kodak Color Plus 200 will be on display at Café Han Dee from October 25th to November 15th.
The opening event will feature live music and poetry, plus Café Han Dee’s amazing cookies. 🍪
Four photographers traveled from Seoul and Daejeon to take part meaning the Busan crowd got outnumbered! With one or two no shows on the morning, I also ended up stepping in to shoot a roll myself, which means I’ll be exhibiting for the first time instead of just organizing.
One of the participating artists is Rosalie Osborn Knaack, who I had the pleasure of interviewing about her ceramic work last year:

Thanks for reading all the way to the end. If you’re in Busan or nearby, I hope to see you at one of these events.
There is one more interview video nearing completion which I’ll share soon over on YouTube.

P.S. Big thanks to the wonderfully talented Meryl for designing both posters for Algorithm Free and In the Footsteps of the Tiger. You can see more of her artwork on Instagram here.
